Gar’s October TidBits

September 30, 2008

METOLIUS FRIENDS CHURCH has been busy reaching out to their local community in a variety of ways.  Pastor Ron Mulkey has been involved with an association of pastor from Madras, and has participated in meetings for prayer, planning, and fellowship. Recently Metolius Friends Church participated in a community wide service day which included many different kinds of activities and ministries that reached out to numerous folks in their community. It was a wonderful time of Christians serving their community together, and many new friendships were formed.

COFFEE WAITING TO HAPPEN

What you will see in the pictures connected to this TIDBIT is a coffee ministry in waiting. Pat and Mandy Schmidt of Redmond Oregon are continuing to inch forward towards launching a new ministry point in their community. Pat and Mandy, in a leap of faith, purchased all the equipment of a local coffee shop that was quitting their business.

Also, updates on The Springs, New Life, Vancouver, and Woodland Friends worship groups are included in this OCTOBER TIDBITS.

The Battleground area of southwest Washington is mostly rural, and there is still a lot of farming as well as other blue-collar work. There are also many people retired from California, and others who work in Portland and commute from the country.People from the area are mostly Caucasian. There are a number of Apostolic Lutherans in the area, and many Russians have arrived in the past 5-8 years. Cherry Grove Friends Church is involved in many ministries. When they see a need, they try to fill it. (From the Spotlight on Cherry Grove.)

… I have this very distinct memory from my childhood from when I was 8-years-old (1968). I’m riding in a U-Haul rental truck with my dad from Washougal, Washington, up to Bellingham, and the trip is taking forever. I remember really having to go to the bathroom. (“This Ain’t Your Daddy’s U-Haul” article by Gar).

Other Articles in this issue include:

  • introduction of an upcoming guest program within NWYM
  • an update on the Human Rights Subcommittee
  • and how to become involved

Gar’s April Road Report

Quincy is a growing community in North Central Washington, not too far from Wenatchee. As we drove around the community we got the feeling that the place is really growing and bustling. Now if you’re from Seattle or Portland or Rufus, you might not use the word “bustling”, but “growing” would be a very appropriate description!
